A company based on experienceThe concept for i-Notification began in commercial nuclear emergency planning following the 1979 Three Mile Island accident. At the time, emergency communications consisted of using radios, hotline telephone ringdown systems and fax machines. The average time for transmittal of emergency information and verification of receipt by all interested parties was 20-30 minutes. In 1988, a future i-Notification partner and a nuclear power plant engineering staff developed a radio-based emergency communication system that cut the transmittal/ receipt/ verification time for that plant down to 5 minutes. By the late nineties, the Internet was an established means of communication, and The 2001 World Trade Center attack and the incident at Virginia Tech in 2007 have resulted in the acceptance and need to use Internet-based text messaging communications systems to transmit information to a large number of first responder agencies and the general population. As i-Notification’s system has developed, it has grown to provide situational awareness communications during industrial accidents, natural disasters, and homeland security incidents.
